Chairperson Haley Broder opened the July 2, 2026, Sybil Brand Commission meeting by reporting two in-custody deaths in Los Angeles County jails since June 9, 2026, with final autopsies pending: a 29-year-old man at Men’s Central Jail (MCJ) on June 14 and a 39-year-old woman at Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF) on June 24. Chairperson Broder noted that the commission was not notified of the CRDF death, which happened just days after they completed an inspection at the facility.
