Chairperson Broder called the meeting to order at 9:09 AM and reported seven recent custody deaths, bringing the 2026 year-to-date total to 31 deaths within Los Angeles County jail facilities. Commander Montoya of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) presented custody statistics, noting that 11 deaths occurred at the Men's Central Jail (MCJ) and 13 at an outside medical facility. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office determined 17 to be natural; three were accidental; one a homicide; and two suicides; with eight cases pending autopsy results.
